Position Description
Come be part of the City of Fresno's active Animal Center facility! The new Assistant Director of Animal Health Care will be part of the collective and strategic planning team responsible for staffing the center, developing programs and community engagement.
The City is looking for a dynamic and customer service-oriented leader. The incumbent should have a collaborative leadership style to ensure that a culture of customer service and care will be at the forefront of the center. With many key objectives to fulfill, it is imperative that the Assistant Director be a flexible, strategic thought leader, who can identify needs and provide sound recommendations to City leadership.
Reporting to the Director, the Assistant Director will plan, organize and direct the activities of the daily operations of the center and manage licensed, professional, and support staff. The incumbent will assist and develop and implement policies and procedures; supervise; respond to public inquiries including those from government officials and advisory bodies; design and implement public information campaigns about the center; direct and administer the licensing and enforcement programs. In addition, the Assistant Director will assist in forecasting, preparing, and administering the department budget, preparing cost estimates for budget recommendations, and monitor and control expenditures; oversee preparation of and presenting agenda items to City Council when designated by the Director; and will be expected to communicate and collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders, vendors, external agencies, regulatory officials, the general public, elected/appointed officials and/or other interested parties to coordinate department activities and resolve issues.

DROP (Deferred Retirement Option Program): an optional, voluntary program that allows an employee to deposit retirement benefits in a special savings account within the Retirement System while continuing to work for the City of Fresno for up to 10 years. Participation minimum is age 50 and vested. Benefits includes ownership of accumulated funds, compound interest earnings, and alternative distribution options.

The Requirements
Qualified candidates must possess:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Business
Administration, Public Administration, or degree field(s) as deemed acceptable
by the Director of Personnel Services and the appointing authority.
AND
Five (5) years of management experience as deemed acceptable by the Director
of Personnel Services and the appointing authority.
Possession of a valid driver's license is required at time of appointment.
Special Note: This assignment includes daily interaction with a variety of animals. Selected individuals must be comfortable working around animals.

Position Description
The City of Fresno offers outstanding career opportunities for veterinarians seeking flexible, shift-paid scheduling who have a passion for making an impact on life-saving efforts at the Fresno Animal Center. These positions will significantly enhance spay and neuter surgical capacity and medical care provided to homeless pets, helping them recover and quickly find homes. This position will work closely with and provide critical relief for the staff Veterinarian and be instrumental in carrying out the City Manager's vision for the veterinary programs for the community.
The ideal candidate should possess thorough knowledge of veterinary treatment, prevention, control, and surgical procedures, as well as care for a wide range of animals. Additionally, they should be familiar with California state, federal, and municipal animal health laws and regulations governing the impounding, releasing, and euthanasia of animals. In addition, qualified candidates must possess and maintain a valid license to practice veterinary medicine issued by the State of California Veterinary Medical Board. Veterinarians who are licensed in another State may be qualified but must acquire a valid license from the State of California to practice veterinary medicine at the time of appointment. Note: A prospective veterinarian who is licensed in another state may be hired by the City of Fresno while obtaining their State of California license. The incumbent must obtain their California license within six (6) months of appointment and cannot practice or serve as the City's Veterinarian until a valid license to practice veterinary medicine, issued by the State of California Veterinary Medical Board, is granted.

Be part of the City of Fresno's new Animal Center Department! The City of Fresno Animal Center Department is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Veterinarian to join their team. The Veterinarian will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of the animals in the Center's care while embodying the goals, innovation, and animal care compassion that the City Manager envisions for the veterinary program and the community.
The ideal candidate should possess thorough knowledge in veterinary, treatment, prevention, control, surgical procedures, and care of a wide range of animals; knowledge of California state, federal, and municipal animal health laws and regulations governing the impounding, releasing and euthanasia of animals; and possess the ability to develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards of staff. In addition, qualified candidates must possess and maintain a valid license to practice veterinary medicine issued by the State of California Veterinary Medical Board. Veterinarians who are licensed in another State may be qualified but must acquire a valid license from the State of California to practice veterinary medicine at time of appointment. Note: A prospective veterinarian who is licensed in another state may be hired by the City of Fresno while in the process of obtaining their State of California license. The incumbent must acquire their California license within six (6) months of appointment and cannot practice or serve as the City's Veterinarian until such time valid license to practice veterinary medicine issued by the State of California Veterinary Medical Board is granted.
Possession and continued maintenance of a valid California Driver's License is required within sixty (60) days of appointment.
Must obtain valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) license within ninety (90) days of hire and maintain a valid license while employed. May be required to hold the Veterinary Premises License issued by the State of California Veterinary Medical Board.
Pay,Benefits, & Work Schedule
